GRAND CANYON WEST, AZ (June 26, 2008) On Saturday, June 21 an group of representatives of the Hualapai Tribe and Skywalk Team met with the Skywalk Documentary Crew onsite at Grand Canyon West to tape interviews right on the Canyon’s rim. Interviewees included: Wilfred Whatoname, Sr., Chairman of the Hualapai Nation; Ted Quasula, President of Grand Canyon Resort Corporation; Wilfred Whatoname, Jr., Visitor Relations for Grand Canyon Resort Corporation; David Jin, Founder of Grand Canyon Skywalk, LLC; Mark Johnson, Skywalk Architect with MRJ Architects; Bill Karren, Skywalk Engineer with Lochsa Engineering; and Manuel Mojica, Construction Site Manager with Executive Construction Management.
The Skywalk Documentary Crew remained onsite gathering footage of the Skywalk and Grand Canyon West for an additional three days, making it a four day shoot. This footage was taped to complement the “never-before-seen” footage of the design and construction of the Skywalk at Grand Canyon West.
“The taping was a rare occasion to have this group together in one place at one time,” said Allison Raskansky, President of Destination Grand Canyon, the marketing arm of Hualapai Tourism. “All of the interviews went very well, everything and more than we were hoping for. This documentary will be a truly amazing and unique behind the scenes look at what it took to create the Skywalk, which resulted in worldwide recognition to Grand Canyon West and the Hualapai Tribe.”
The documentary, produced by KAOS Entertainment, will be aired in high definition exclusively on the National Geographic Channel and inside the Skywalk Visitor Center. The premiere is scheduled for early 2009. The hour long special will be an in-depth documentary focusing on the technical aspects of the Grand Canyon Skywalk which will feature the design and construction from start to finish. Much of the footage that will be used to create the program has never been seen by the public, making this documentary the first true behind the scenes look at one of the world’s most unique structures and engineering marvels.
